Econet makes Chipinge ‘wireless’

BIG companies should take advantage of Chipinge’s conducive investment environment, an official has said.

Chipinge assistant district administrator, Mr Teddius Beto, made the remarks at the opening a state-of-the-art shop by mobile network operator — Econet Wireless — in the eastern border town last Friday.

He was the guest of honour at the event. Mr Beto said the district was particularly happy with the confidence shown by the company and promised better and improved working relations between the Chipinge community and Econet Wireless.

“Chipinge district in general and the town council in particular welcomes the opening of the Econet shop and for us this signifies confidence by the corporate world in our councils. Indeed our two local authorities have embraced the concept of ‘ease of doing business’ being advanced by central Government and we urge other big companies to come and invest in Chipinge,” said Mr Beto.

“We are told that Econet intends to expand its operations in the district by constructing a new shop at Checheche growth point. This is a clear testimony that we are indeed developing as a district.”

Econet Wireless has been operating a mobile shop all along, which saw clients waiting in the open for service, but has moved to the NSSA complex and the new shop will offer a variety of services that include selling of cellphones, Internet connectivity, banking as well as selling home security gadgets.

Speaking at the same occasion, Econet Wireless chief sales manager, Mrs Ivy Sithole said the company was in Chipinge to stay.
