Gimboki residents ‘fed up’with Udcorp

GIMBOKI residents have called on Mutare City Council to take over the administration of their housing development project from Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP), which they accuse of lacking commitment.

The call was made at a recent feedback meeting between the city council and Ward 15 resients .

The residents urged Mutare City Council to take over the development from UDCORP saying they felt cheated by the latter since they were not getting the services they were promised when the housing project was launched.

The residents also revealed that they had been studiously paying UDCORP but that had not helped their situation.

One resident, Mr Clever Manyadza, said council was their only hope since they had been duped many times by different companies that approached them in the name of development.

“Two cooperative development companies came and we paid bills that were meant for the development of our area but they never delivered. Now we have seen it fit to give the responsibility to Mutare City Council,” said Mr Manyadza.

He added that they were sick and tired of losing money to bogus developers who only demanded money without delivering on their promises.

Responding on behalf of Mutare City Council Town Clerk Mr Joshua Maligwa said they were willing to take over the development as soon as they received the documentation of the project from UDCORP as well as the money that the people had been paying for the project.

“Council is willing to take over the development of the area and will now start the process of securing the documentation that gives us permission to take over responsibility for the project, said Mr Maligwa.

Newly elected mayor of the City of Mutare Councilor Blessing Tandi said the development of the area had been stalled due to political processes that divided people adding that council was working on procedures to rectify the situation and deliver according to the needs of the people.

“The area was under cooperative development but there were political forces that divided people’s attention and focus towards development. However, that resulted in the stalled development that we see today,” said Cllr Tandi.

“Mutare City Council has come up with the framework to develop the area and now we have started the procedures to take control of the development of the area.”

Efforts to get a comment from UDCORP were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
