$1m water fund boost for Murambinda
RESIDENTS of Murambinda Growth Point and surrounding villages will benefit from the $1 million water fund availed by the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Settlement for water reticulation projects.
Speaking at a consultative meeting with heads of Government departments and other stakeholders held at Buhera Rural District Council offices last Friday, Buhera West House of Assembly member, Cde Soul Nzuma, said households around Murambinda Growth Point would soon have tap water.
Cde Nzuma said the Department of Water had since approved the project, which he said would commence within a few weeks.
“I would like to thank Minister Perrance Shiri for unveiling the $1 million water fund through the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Settlement.
“We hope that residents in South Bank and Jaru in Murambinda Growth Point will be the first to benefit from the fund.
“Nearby schools are also set to benefit from the project as tanks are set to be installed at a mountain top in South Bank. It is our hope that the project commences soon since it has been approved by the water authorities here in Buhera,” he said.
Cde Nzuma added that the project came at a time when Buhera was also fighting the cholera outbreak of which some suspected cases were reported over the past weeks.
“This water fund came at the right time when Buhera and the country at large is fighting the outbreak of cholera. We are happy that people will soon be receiving clean and safe water, which will go a long way in combating the disease,” he said.
Cde Nzuma applauded the progress made in the construction of Marowanyati Dam whose completion he said would help increase the hectarage of irrigable land and improve food security.
He thanked President Mnangagwa and his Government for committing funds towards the construction of the dam, which is almost 85 percent complete.
“Progress at Marowanyati Dam has been tremendous and it has since jumped from around 56 percent in June this year to around 70 percent as of September. Its completion means the revival of irrigation schemes in Buhera West constituency and other areas. Increased irrigable land translates to improved food security in the area considering the aridity of Buhera,” he said.
Cde Nzuma also thanked the roads engineering department for progress made on the tarring of Murambinda-Birchenough Bridge Road, which is set to be open for traffic in a fortnight.
Manicaland Provincial road engineer, Mr Arnold Mutungwazi, bemoaned the lack of efficient road construction equipment, which he said was stalling progress.
Buhera RDC chief executive, Mrs Emily Chibvongodze promised to continue supporting various projects being initiated in the area.
After the meeting, Cde Nzuma and heads of Government departments toured Marowanyati Dam construction site and Murambinda-Birchenough Bridge road construction works.
