Breast cancer awareness campaign set for Saturday

LEO clubs are hosting a breast cancer awareness campaign this Saturday aimed at increasing awareness on the disease.

In a statement, LEO clubs projects director for Zimbabwe and Botswana, Ms Makaita Ngwenya, said the programme was open for all to participat­e.

“LEO clubs are an affiliate of LIONS Club Internatio­nal Foundation, a humanitari­an organisati­on,” she said.

“Our main aim being to develop future leaders through active involvemen­t in community service.

“On the 13th of October, Leo’s are having a breast cancer awareness day. The main mandate is to raise awareness to the males that breast cancer can also affect them while at the same time encouragin­g females to go for screening on time for early detection.

“The project is open to all and every club or organisati­on which wishes to take part.”

Ms Ngwenya said the project, which was a brainchild of Zimbabwe LEOs, had since been adopted internatio­nally

She said at an internatio­nal level, the project will be taking place in Italy, India, Sri Lanka, Hungary, Togo, Botswana, Malawi, Ecuador and South Africa.

“In Zimbabwe, this project is happening in different places around the country in Hwange, Kwekwe, Chinhoyi, Mutare, Bulawayo and Harare,” said Ms Ngwenya.
