Kwekwe town clerk to retire
KWEKWE town clerk Mr Emmanuel Ngwena Musara is set to retire at the end of year.
Speaking during a local authorities meeting with the new Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs Larry Mavima in Gweru, Mr Musara said Kwekwe’s administration officer Mrs Lucia Mkhandla will be the acting town clerk.
“Cde Minister Sir, today I have come with my team from Kwekwe City Council and will not be giving presentations on behalf of the local authority,” he said.
“I am about to retire soon and step down as the town clerk, so Mrs (Lucia) Mkhandla will be acting town clerk and she will be here today to give a presentation on the state of Kwekwe City Council.”
Mr Musara said he ran his race and played his part in running the administration of Kwekwe and will be leaving to allow new blood.
“As part of the process to prepare her to take over, Mrs Mkhandla will make a presentation to give you an appreciation of the City of Kwekwe,” he said.
“I am leaving for the young blood to take over.”
Sources said Kwekwe City Council has started deliberating on an exit package for the long-serving town clerk.
“The previous administration and the city fathers had already started deliberating on Mr Musara’s exit package but the negotiations were interrupted by elections. Now that there are new councillors the deliberations will resume,” said a council source. Kwekwe mayor Councillor Angeline Kasipo said they were yet to deliberate on the town clerk‘s exit package.
She said Mr Musara was yet to tender his formal letter of retirement.
“Yes, the Town Clerk has briefed us on his intention to go on retirement but no formal communication has been given yet so there are no deliberations on the exit package,” she said.
