Parly appoints SROC chairs
PARLIAMENT’s Standing Rules and Orders Committee last week appointed chairpersons of portfolio committees, Senate Thematic Committees and members of the Parliamentary Legal Committee (PLC).
The announcement of portfolio committees was made by Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda, while Senate President, Mabel Chinomona, made the announcement to Senators.
The 20 chairpersons of portfolio committees appointed are, Cde Dudzai Mataranyika (Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs), Mr Temba Mliswa (Mines and Mining Development), Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement), Cde Esther Chikuni (Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare), Cde Kindness Paradza (Foreign Affairs and International Trade), Cde Levi Maihlome (Defence and Home Affairs), Cde Felix Mhona (Budget, Finance and Economic Development) and Dr Ruth Labode (Health and Child Care).
Cde Chido Madiwa will chair the Women’s Affairs committee, Engineer Daniel Garwe (Transport and Infrastructure Development), Mr Prince Dubeko Sibanda (Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services), Mr Daniel Molekela (Higher and Tertiary Education) and Cde Mathias Tongofa (Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation).
Ms Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga will be in charge of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Charlton Hwende (Information Communication Technology and Courier Services), Cde Joshua Sacco (Industry and Commerce) Mr Gabuza Gabuza (Energy and Power Development) and Mr Tendai Biti (Public Accounts).
Advocate Mudenda also announced members of the PLC and these are Cde Jonathan Samukange (chairperson), Cde Cuthbert Mupame, Cde Mataranyika, Mr Maxwell Mavhunga and Mr Kucaca Phulu.
In Senate, Chief Khumalo was appointed to chair the Sustainable Development Goals committee, Senator Maybe Mbowa will chair the Indigenisation and Empowerment committee, while the Human Rights committee will be chaired by Senator Oliver Chidhawu, with the Peace and Security committee chaired by Senator David Parirenyatwa.
