Harare City strengthen Waddilove deal

- Tadious Manyepo Sports Reporter

HARARE City have sought to cast their talent identification net wider with the club set to pick junior players in the ongoing annual Harare Council Schools gala whom they will offer scholarships to enrol at Waddilove High School.

The Premiership side have a twinning arrangement with the Marondera-based institution in which talented footballers are enrolled at the school.

The deal, which was facilitated by the club’s chief executive officer Tafadzwa Bhasera and marketing manager Osbourne Maranda has been in place since the beginning of the year.

Eight players from Harare City’s junior development project formed the core of the Waddilove Under-15 team which reached the Nash Copa Coca Cola semi-finals in Zvishavane in July.

For good measure, it was the school’s first time to progress beyond even the district level.

And this time around, Harare City have decided to select players from the annual competition where they are expecting to take on board the best 10, who will be enrolled at Waddilove next year.

The club will also pick as many

girls who would have shone brightly at the tourney.

The inter-council schools tournament began at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield on Thursday with Harare City coaches, including development director Elvis “Chuchu” Chiweshe, Rosemary Mugadza as well as former Sportingl Lions goalkeeper Lovemore Makwavarara scouting for talent.
