All set for Rumble in Harare tourney

- Sports Correspondent

ALL is set for Charles Manyuchi’s “Rumble in Harare” international boxing tournament scheduled for Prince Edward School tonight, with all but just one set of boxers having met their weights.

The tournament, being hosted by the former WBC silver champion in partnership with the elite Harare institution, among others, will be the final one on his academy’s calendar and some exciting boxing action will be on display if the match-making is anything to go by.

Other sponsors include Asante Capital, Logistics Enterprises, Great Zimbabwe University and Phil-Jen Country Lodges. Boxers from visiting Zambian stable — Exodus Promotions — the CMSA and other clubs yesterday underwent the weigh in at the venue.

Evans Husavihwevhu could not stomach the disappointment of not finding an opponent after the one brought for him by the Zambians (Caristo Bwalya) weighed a gross 7kg below his own weight.

Despite this sole hitch, the head of the Zambian contingent and director and coach of Exodus, Mwamba, said he was in the country for “business” and his statements will be proven by his boxers when they take to the ring.

Rising star Alice Mbewe said she would “barbecue” her foe, Zvikomborero Danzwa, in typical Hungry Lion (a fast foods outlet that operates in Zambia) fashion, with the latter promising to prove the goodness of her pudding in the ring.

Charles Manyuchi Sports academy co-director and spokesperson, Prosper Chibaya assured boxing enthusiasts of a five-star diet saying, “It is an undisputed fact that Harare is going to rumble tomorrow (today) and all the ingredients of a pulsating fixture are now in place, punctuated of-course with the weigh in we have just seen being conducted prior to this press conference. Bout Card: Melissa Matanhire v Fortunate China; Hassan Milanzi v Ronald Tamani; Enock Musambudzi v Clever Sithole; John Andrew v Emmanuel Chisiya; Tinashe Marume v Ian Kachepa; Zvikomborero Danzwa v Alice Mbewe; Alfred Kashiri v Tatenda Paradza; Partson Mutengwa v Semi Ngoma; Violet Phiri v Sarah Matchis.
