New Year resolutions

-

THE festive season is certainly a good reason to spend and enjoy quality time with family and friends. The tough economic environment is proving difficult to spend out of budget. But then again, how many people really formulate a budget and plan ahead? And, is it worth planning when prices are constantly changing in an inflated economy?

Many would argue that it is not worth it, but in my opinion, it’s important to plan ahead despite the uncertainties and the best time to plan is now.

With New Year on its way, many of us will have a new resolution. All resolutions wouldn’t necessarily be implemented or they may come to an end point soon.

So, why should we wait for the first date of New Year to start something new.

It is essential to formulate an action plan and develop new habits now so that when the New Years resolution hype kicks in, you are already way ahead of time and have turned your resolution into a habit.

It is important to set priorities based on the 6 areas of life: ◆ Family and Home, Financial and Career, Mental and Educational, Physical and Health, Social and Cultural, and lastly, Spiritual and Ethical. If one plans well, based on these 6 aspects, the year will become productive and full of enjoyment.

Taking a closer look at these 6 aspects:

Family and home: If you are well organised at work and utilise time efficiently, you will manage to work out extra time to spend quality time with family at home.

Financial and career: With a high level of unemployment, majority of people may be involved in the informal sector. However, anyone generating an income, be it formal or informal sector, be financially disciplined and involved in the continuous process of planning.

Mental well-being and education: Commit to reading something on a daily basis, to stimulate your mind and open it to new ideas and positive thoughts. Learning is a never-ending process and there is no limit to knowledge.

Physical & Health: Not being physically fit, is as good as being handicapped. It is usually a challenge to avoid stress and stay positive. Exercising

regularly and eating healthy by setting nutritional goals will keep stress at bay and replace it with motivation.

Social & Cultural: If you maintain and commit to all the above aspects, you will easily identify and attract like minded people to create a culture of positivity.

Spiritual & Ethical: These principles will instil values and ethics in each individual and facilitate spiritual growth. Following them will lead you to be a person with a Good Heart and someone with values, that many would want to follow.

The New Year is around the corner, and only you have the power to change your life and destiny in a dynamic environment.
