Chitauro hails Hornets

- Prince Mukuna Sports Reporter

HARARE City Hornets coach Andrew Chitauro is confident his table-topping champions will retain the Harare Basketball Association Women’s League title after maintaining their impressive run over the weekend.

Hornets who have been enjoying a purple patch consolidated their lead at the top after hammering Lady Lynx 127 - 10 in an embarrassingly one-sided affair at Richwood on Saturday.

Chitauro said the team have been impressive since Day One of the 2018/19 HBA season and are eager to continue with their brilliant run. “We have taken our own levels of play to even a higher plane than last year when we won the title”, he said. “The run of wins and the margins will show you that we treat every game like a big game. We give each game the same planning, training, intensity and mental approach to win, we want to win doing the things correctly and win impressively.

“We hope to continue to work hard so that we can retain the league title. I am happy to coach such a talented team who have a thirst to work and achieve goals”, said Chitauro. Chitauro also said they had been lucky to have all but one of their players fit for much of the league assignments, which helped them maintain some consistency. “We only have Sharon Chamwarura out for three weeks with a hip injury, otherwise we have a clean health bill.

“Lutanga Shaba and Patience Chinhoyi are contributing a lot and their best to keep the team standings on top and they are also at their peak level. Our strength is teamwork and sharing roles”, Chitauro said.
