TENDAI MUBAIWA and Charity Ncube were crowned the 2018 Carling Black Label Pool champions at Raylton Sports Club in Bulawayo at the weekend.

The pair won the annual tournament which is sponsored by Delta Beverages to walk away with $1 000, pool table cue stick and balls each.

Mubaiwa, who got the better of Lewis Munyama, recorded his second win the tournament, having claimed his first title in 2016 at the same venue.

The Hatfield-based player, who is also in the national team, was happy with his win and said he would continue to work harder to perfect his game.

“I am very happy with the win and I practised a lot for this. I am happy that Bulawayo is fast becoming my favourite hunting ground.

“I am grateful to the supporters for rallying behind me throughout the tournament.

“I am now looking forward to my next competition.

“Having won the two last national tournaments, I was very confident that I was going to do well,” said Mubaiwa.

Ncube on the other hand managed to get the better of Flatta Moyo in the women’s final.

For their efforts, Moyo and Munyama pocketed $700 for their run-up finishes.

Obedience Lewis and Tinovimba Gonzalo completed the top four men’s places to pocket $500 and $300 respectively, while Angeline Musapambwa and Moses Million completed the women places for the same amounts.

Meanwhile, Exide Pool Club have vowed to make a change in the Harare Province Pool Association by bringing in more competition.

The team had some representatives in the national tournament who did not manage to make it through, but the club chairman Oneday Sauramba said they are ready to conquer and thanked Chloride for the support.

“We are here in Bulawayo as a team and we were unfortunate that our players did not progress that much. We are happy that we managed to have representatives in such a big competition.

“After getting into the league this year, we are making a lot of progress,” said Sauramba.
