- Fungai Lupande Mash Central Bureau

GOVERNMENT has started upgrading Chapoto Clinic into a fully fledged hospital to assist people in Kanyemba, Mbire District, who have been seeking medical attention in Zambia or Mozambique, Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Cde Monica Mavhunga has said.

In a speech read on her behalf by a director in her office, Mr Admore Shereni, during an investment conference in Mbire, Cde Mavhunga said resources were being mobilised for Mushumbi District Hospital.

“Paperwork has already started for the expansion of Chapoto Clinic to the status of a community hospital. Resources are also being mobilised for the congested Mushumbi District Hospital. Mbire does not have a Government hospital and the residents are seeking medical attention in Zambia or Mozambique,” said Cde Mavhunga.

“The investment conference has become a milestone event in the Mbire Rural District Council calendar. Government fully supports the initiative and we challenge other local authorities to emulate and market more investment opportunities in their districts in line with the devolution trajectory adopted by the Government.

“President Emmerson Mnangagwa has clearly spelt out the vison of become a middle income economy by 2030, as such Government is putting emphasis on local economic development initiatives to empower local people to contribute significantly and meaningfully to the growth of the economy.

“Mbire RDC is making notable strides to attract investment and grow the council’s GDP despite being the newest district created from Guruve in July 2006. Mbire is endowed with natural resources including wildlife, land, vast forests and major rivers for irrigation. We cannot let these resources to go untapped if we are to make Mash Central the breadbasket of the country.”

Addressing investors at the same investment conference, ZIMRA officer Mr Vincent Mutsvene said the Harare-Kanyemba route is the shortest on the North-South Corridor into Central Africa.

“Cargo goods that trickle in from DRC and eastern Zambia, Chipata province go through Nyamapanda Border Post and it’s a long distance. They go through Mozambique, Malawi and back into Zambia. Harare-Kanyemba is an ideal route,” he said.

“Great opportunity is available for Kanyemba Border Post to decongest Chirundu Border Post where there is a truck menace. That traffic can be diverted to Kanyemba. ZIMRA, through the Ministry of Finance, offers rebates for investors including tourism, capital equipment, safari operators and national projects rebates. Engage us and take advantage of the various offers we have.”
