Zaka RDC proposes $6,6m budget

- Sydney Mubaiwa in ZAKA

ZAKA Rural District Council has proposed a budget of $6,6 million for next year, up from $1,8 million this year as it aims to complete outstanding capital projects.

The acting chief executive Ms Nancy Chatikobo told stakeholders during a full council meeting on Wednesday that they were planning to allocate $2,6 million to infrastructure development.

Ms Chatikobo said one of the key projects was purchasing a borehole drilling machine, a dozer, grader, refuse truck, roller and tipper.

“We are proposing a budget of $6 675 263 million for 2019, which is thrice our current budget $1 890 862,” she said.

“We are looking at continuing with some of the projects that we started this year and those we have not been able to start on such as the servicing of 130 stands at Nyabare Park.

“At the same time we want to urge ratepayers to pay their bills for us to improve on service delivery and to meet other obligations.”

She said some of the projects council wants to undertake in 2019 include the construction of Benzi Clinic in Ward 26, a classroom block at Jerera Primary School in Ward 19, construction of staff houses at newly constructed Njiva and Machiva clinics and acquisition of road equipment.

She said an increase in the availability of primary health care facilities would go a long way in reducing the distance that villagers were walking to access the nearest health facilities.

She added that some of the major and link roads were in a bad state and required upgrading or re-gravelling.

Ms Chatikobo said they were working on acquiring a refuse truck to boost capacity on environment management issues in the area.
