Woman cons prosecutor
A CHIPINGE woman duped a senior public prosecutor who helped her get a $3 000 loan from a local financial institution.
Miriam Muchadeyi (37) of Gaza appeared before Chipinge magistrate Poterai Gwezhira facing fraud charges.
She was remanded in custody to January 19 for trial.
The court heard that on November 9, 2017, Muchadeyi approached the prosecutor Thembalami Dhliwayo, who works at Chipinge Magistrates Court.
She was accompanied by Trust Wish Mwandipira.
Muchadeyi, who sought a $3 000 loan from Success Microfinance, persuaded Dhliwayo to be her guarantor.
She told Dhliwayo that Success Microfinance wanted someone with a traceable employment record especially civil servants.
Muchadeyi allegedly lied to Dhliwayo that she owned a grocery shop at Birchenough Bridge Business Centre. She offered the shop as security. Dhliwayo signed the loan application forms as Muchadeyi’s guarantor.
Dhliwayo was phoned by Success Microfinance on June 6, 2018 alerting him that Muchadeyi had failed to service her loan. Success Microfinance started deducting money from Dhliwayo’s salary.
Muchadeyi disappeared and efforts to locate her were fruitless.
Dhliwayo carried out investigations and discovered that Muchadeyi had lied about owning a grocery shop at Birchenough Bridge. He reported the matter to the police leading to Muchadeyi’s arrest.
