Nyanga school appeals for help after $600 000 storm damage

- Ratidzai Manditsvanga Mutare Correspondent

TSATSE Primary School in Nyanga last week lost property worth over $560 000 after a heavy storm destroyed the administration and classroom blocks for Grades Six and Seven.

Some of the property destroyed includes computers, new curriculum textbooks, laser jet printers, stationery and office equipment.

Tsatse Primary School head Mr Sheppard Mandipe said this was a huge blow for the school as the unfortunate event happened just a week before the opening of the new school year.

“This is very unfortunate because we are just a few days from opening schools and this is a major setback as one of the classes affected is an exam class,” Mr Mandipe said.

He added that the school was appealing to well-wishers to help in the reconstruction of the blocks as the school did not have enough funds to do so. He said the school also did not have anywhere to house the affected pupils when schools re-open tomorrow.

“Our appeal to the corporate world and individuals is for assistance to reconstruct the blocks and provide a place where the pupils will learn from when schools open. As it is now, the school does not have enough funds to get the work done as our $15 per term tuition fees will not be able to cover all the expenses. We need urgent help as most parents struggle to raise this money and sometimes the school resorts to accepting commodities such as maize and other grains as fees,” Mandipe added.

Those interested in assisting the school can contact Mr Mandipe on 0716867962/ 0773504210(WhatsApp).

The school’s bank details are as follows: Agribank 142000017573.
