‘Indaba resolutions will unify Zanu-PF’

- Victor Maphosa Mash East Correspondent

MASHONALAND East freedom fighters have called for the implementation of resolutions adopted at the 17th Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Conference held in Esigodini.

The Conference was held in December last year.

Speaking during the war veterans provincial Annual General Meeting held in Marondera over the weekend, Mashonaland East War Veterans Association chairman Cde Daniel Sigauke said the resolutions should be immediately implemented to strengthen the party.

“We attended the Conference recently and all the resolutions made there are sound and good and as Mashonaland East War Veterans Association, we call to the Government to implement the resolutions.

“These resolutions will strengthen our party and unify everyone, our party Zanu-PF must always be strong and focused, thus we call for the implementation of these resolution,” Cde Sigauke said.

He said among other issues to be dealt with, is that of land allocation to freedom fighters.

The former freedom fighters urged the Government to clampdown on land barons saying they disturb the smooth process of land redistribution.

Cde Sigauke said some war veterans are still waiting to be allocated land yet some land barons are busy duping innocent people of their hard earned money through illegal land dealings.

“We have noted with concern that there is no meaningful land allocation to war veterans and other land seekers despite some land barons amassing vast pieces of land during the old dispensation.

“We call upon to the Government to stop these land barons and allocate land evenly to all citizens,” he said.

He said some families of late freedom fighters are in need of land.

“We also urge the nation to respect the rights of widows and orphans; they must be protected at all costs.

“We noted with concern how the wife of the late Cde Chenjerai Hunzvi tirelessly resisted forced eviction from her plot. Government should look into these issues and protect these widows,” he said.

The meeting also resolved the set-up of the war veterans task force composed of district, provincial and national as well as senior members of the association in the province.

“The taskforce will be there to seek audience with various stakeholders in monitoring the implementation of various provincial programmes including the allocation of land to war veterans and their welfare,” said Cde Sigauke.

The war veterans also threw their weight behind President Mnangagwa and pledged to support and contribute to Vision 2030.

“Let us all support our President’s 2030 vision, we call upon our members to be united and be peace loving and contribute in building the Zimbabwe we want.

“Let us all have a unity of purpose. Let us shun some elements who bring about the divide and rule policies, let us all be aware of the dangers of social media,” he said.
