EcoCash agent loses $24 000 to robbers

Yeukai Karengezeka vehicle and stole two satchels containing $5 000 in cash, airtime scratch cards amounting to $5 000 and two Buddie lines containing an EcoCash balance of $14 276.

Chirunga reported the matter to the police and of the $24 276 stolen, only $14 276 which was in the EcoCash was recovered.

On February 8 this year, Chirunga spotted Munodawafa at Chikwanha Shopping Centre and immediately notified Chitungwiza police.

The police arrested him, searched his vehicle and discovered catapults, two metal bars, a knife and a modified object for breaking into cars.

Meanwhile, a senior Harare lawyer, Mr Moses Shingiriro Chinyenze, who is practising law for 34 years, was last week removed from the legal practitioners’ register for abuse of trust funds, Herald Correspondent AN attempt by a Chitungwiza armed robber, who allegedly stole $24 000 from an EcoCash agent, to have his case dismissed was on Friday thrown out by Chitungwiza resident magistrate Mr Nyasha Vitorini.

Panganai Munodawafa, alias Obert Madziva (40), is pleading not guilty to possession of articles for criminal use and robbery charges.

Through his lawyer, Mr Bothwell Ndlovu, he had applied for dismissal at the close of the State case. The sentence has been set for April 24. Prosecuting, Mr Tatenda Mukatera, alleged that on December 6 last year at around 7.30pm the complainant, Kumbirai Chirunga (29), left his workplace, but on his way home, along Harare–Wedza Road, just before Tugwete Village road turn-off in Dema, he noticed that he was being followed by an unregistered vehicle.

Upon arrival at his house, he disembarked from his vehicle to open the gate when Munodawafa and his accomplice, who is still at large, pounced on him.

They struck him on the left side of his forehead once with an iron bar, but he managed to escape.

Chirunga positively identified Munodawafa who was a regular client at his Ecocash shop.

Munodawafa and his accomplice broke the rear window of Chirunga’s reports Daniel Nemukuyu.

Mr Chinyenze was convicted by the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal chaired by High Court judge, Justice Felistus Chatukuta.

His law firm, MS Chinyenze & Associates, was placed under curatorship for the administration of its trust and business accounts.

“It is accordingly ordered that: The respondent’s name be and is hereby deleted from the Register of Legal Practitioners, Notaries Public and Conveyancers,” ruled Justice Chatukuta.
