Manyame projects in progress

MANYAME Rural District Council has embarked on a number of social service projects, including the construction of clinics, schools, upgrading of vending stalls and road rehabilitation.

In an interview, Manyame RDC chief executive Mrs Farirai Guta said council was likely to meet its set targets as the projects were already underway.

“At Manyoshwa primary and Masasa secondary schools we are doing some construction works in partnership with the community whereby council is providing material,” she said.

“We are also mobilising resources for the construction of Kudyarawanza Primary School which falls under this year’s plans.”

On clinics, Mrs Guta said they had completed one institution, but were now working on constructing staff quarters.

“Willadale Clinic building is now complete and we are currently working on minor touches on completion of staff houses,” she said.

“The clinic will be operational by this year.

“In Ward 3, council in partnership with the community and a donation from the local legislator, is also constructing Bwoni Clinic. The legislator supplied cement, while the community is assisting with labour.”

Mrs Guta said the district’s roads were ravaged during the past rainy season and council was now rehabilitating them.

“At Guzha Business Centre near Chikwanha, we are in the process of completing a 5km of tarred road which we initiated last year,” she said. “So far we only tarred at least 1km.” Mrs Guta said the RDC had also secured a partner to upgrade its vending stalls. Save the Children Zimbabwe is assisting in the upgrading of our vegetable market stalls and progress is also underway,” she said.

The local authority is also in the process of repossessing low, medium and high-density residential stands in Beatrice and Dema that were availed sometime between 2002 and 2003.
