Zanu-PF DCCs: Masvingo ready
THE ruling party’s leadership in Masvingo province has said they are ready for the reintroduction of District Coordinating Committees (DCCs).
This follows a decision taken by the party to re-introduce the committees starting with Harare province.
Zanu-PF vice provincial chairman (Masvingo) Cde Ailes Baloyi said on Monday that they were geared for the elections to choose DCC members.
He reiterated that discipline was key and that no one was expected to canvass for support before the process.
“DCC positions are contested by all card-carrying members. No one is expected to campaign as the dates for the elections are yet to be announced by the national commissariat,” said Cde Baloyi.
He said the provincial leadership led by chairman Cde Ezra Chadzamira, who is also Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, was presiding over the Harare elections.
“As we speak, Minister Chadzamira is in or may be travelling to Harare. He will join other senior members of the party in conducting DCC elections in the capital. I am also due to follow him for a yet to be defined assignment as directed by the national commissariat,” said Cde Baloyi.
“However, we are ever ready even if the elections are to be conducted next week. As you know, we are different from opposition parties where you have heard of violence during such intra-party elections to choose members for specific positions, we assure the whole country of total peace.”
He said history had shown that Masvingo was a peaceful province with no incidents of violence reported during similar activities of the party.
Cde Baloyi urged all card-carrying members to put their affairs in order.
The Zanu-PF Politburo last week appointed a five-member team of senior cadres led by national chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri to oversee the re-establishment of the DCCs in Harare, as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the 2023 harmonised elections. Other members of the team who started work last week include Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu, national political commissar Cde Victor Matemadanda, Secretary for Finance and Economic Development Cde Patrick Chinamasa and Secretary for Security Cde Lovemore Matuke.
The party has also divided Harare into six zones whose restructuring will be led by a provincial chairman from the party’s other provinces, who will be answerable to the team of senior officials.
Restructuring in Zone 1 is led by Mashonaland Central chairman Cde Kazembe Kazembe, Zone 2 will be coordinated by Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is chairman for Mashonaland West; Zone 3 is led by Mashonaland East chairman Cde Biggie Matiza; while Cde Chadzamira from Masvingo province will lead Zone 4; Zone 5 is being jointly led by Matabeleland North chair Cde Richard Moyo; and Manicaland chair Cde Mike Madiro. Zone 6 restructuring is also jointly coordinated by Midlands chair Cde Daniel Mackenzie Ncube and Matabeleland South chair Cde Rebelani Choeni.
