Let Zim chart its own destiny, Matutu tells US

- Wallace Ruzvidzo Herald Reporter

ZANU-PF Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Lewis Matutu has called on the United States to leave Zimbabwe alone and allow the country to make mistakes or succeed without interference.

In an interview with The Herald, Cde Matutu said sanctions must be viewed from an economic point of view as the country cannot grow or stabilise its economy without access to lines of credit or financial support.

“The Americans must leave us alone and allow us to enjoy our independence and sovereignty and to make our own mistakes and successes without their interference,” he said.

“Sanctions impact on economic development, we cannot grow our economy or stabilise it if we don’t have access to financial support. Recently, Somalians were given financial support to ensure that they grow their economy. Why can’t they do the same for us by lifting the sanctions and giving us financial support? “

Cde Matutu said the US claimed to be one of the country’s biggest donors, but they gave the proceeds to non-governmental organisations who in turn use the funds to propagate opposition parties’ agendas.

He said if they were sincere donors, they would give the aid directly to Government.

“They say they give our country a lot of aid amounting to millions and billions, but that is the money they give to NGOs who are sympathetic to the opposition, to push the opposition’s agenda,” said Cde Matutu.

“They don’t want to give money directly to Government because they do not want our economy to stabilise.”

Cde Matutu urged the youth to capitalise on the available resources to better their lives.
