THE Zanu-PF Youth League wants to focus on defending the party and mobilising more people in rural and urban areas, in line with its 2020 strategic work plan.

Addressing the media on Thursday after a national executive meeting in Harare, the League’s secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Yeukai Simbanegavi said: “We will defend the party and the revolution as well as our President Cde Mnangagwa at all costs and without fail.

“We have agreed that we are committed to adhere to the guidance we are given by our leadership and to follow the constitution of the party, as well as our internal procedures that guide our day to day activities to avoid bringing our party into disrepute.”

Cde Simbanegavi said they will work closely with their affiliates in universities and youths from all walks of life in mobilising more supporters.

“Mobilisation is critical in both urban and rural provinces,” she said. “That means we will also be working closely with our youth affiliates that are in universities like ZICOSU and our youths in various sectors that include mining, farming, tourism as well as children of war veterans.”

Zanu PF Youth League’s affiliates have thrown their weight behind the party’s decision to remove Cde Pupurai Togarepi, Cde Lewis Matutu and Cde Godfrey Tsenengamu from their positions after accusing some prominent businesspeople of corruption.

The allegations were made without following laid down party procedures.

Speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters in Harare yesterday, National Youth Service chairman Cde Absolom Madusise said it was important that Zanu PF maintained law and order among its rank and file.

“First, as you are all aware of the events that took place before and after the recently held Zanu PF Politburo meeting,” he said. “We are here gathered as Zanu PF affiliate youth associations issuing this press statement rallying behind the decision made by the Zanu PF Politburo.”
