Shot in the arm for Zvimba taskforce
THE Zvimba District taskforce on Covid-19 got a shot in the arm after it received disinfectants, sanitisers, liquid soap, knapsack sprayers and tapped water buckets from Zvimba West legislator Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi.
The donation is meat to equip them during the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at Zvimba District Hospital at the weekend, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi said the donation would assist all health facilities in the district to combat the spread of the pandemic in Zvimba.
He said the spike in positive Covid19 cases recorded in the country was worrisome and Government had moved to decentralise laboratory testing for coronavirus specimens.
“As a country we have recorded an increase in the Covid-19 cases even after the lockdown was instituted and this should give us something to worry about. Government has made efforts in fighting this virus, with support from the private sector and the corporate world at large,” he said.
“We are now coming down to the districts and equipping the health sector with necessary medical and personal protective equipment as we join hands in the fight. Today we have brought disinfectants to disinfect our health facilities in the district, sanitisers, buckets and liquid soap for our hygiene. We need to protect our health personnel from the virus so as Zvimba people we all ought to adhere to the isolation measures.”
Speaking at the same event, Zvimba District medical officer Dr Terrence Dandazi commended Cde Ziyambi for the donation.
“We are grateful for the donation today and as a district we appeal for more assistance especially in our isolation centres. They need refurbishing and beds as well as cardiac tables. We also want oxygen for our isolation centres and of much importance is a dedicated vehicle for our response teams so that we are able to attend to emergency cases without exposing patients to other ailments.”
He called on Government to consider building an incinerator for the Zvimba District Hospital the safe disposal of used PPEs.
