ZANU PF has commended the business community for assisting Government in fighting Covid-19 through various donations.

A number of companies have so far donated millions of dollars to the Government to intensify the fight against coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

The party’s Secretary for Commissariat Cde Victor Matemadanda, who was standing in for the national chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri during the handover of food hampers to the disabled at the party’s headquarters on Thursday, said the ruling party was grateful to the commitment shown by the business community in the fight against the pandemic.

The hampers were sourced by Kadoma businessman Mr Jimayi Muduvuri through his foundation, Muduvuri’s Rehabilitation and Empowerment Foundation.

The beneficiaries were drawn from Harare province and more than 100 of them benefited from the donation of food hampers.

“We want the spirit of oneness in times of need,” said Cde Matemadanda. “The pandemic does not have boundaries. It affects everyone despite one’s political affiliation. Let us focus on mobilising more resources towards fighting the pandemic for the benefit of the people.

“It is a situation that has not been anticipated and no one has planned for it.”

In addition, Cde Matemadanda said the pandemic had greatly affected the economy, including livelihoods.

“You will all concur with me that we are in very difficult times in the history of mankind owing to the Covid-19 pandemic,’’ he said.

“The whole world has been forced to put everything on hold as we fight for our lives in our respective homes, during this lockdown period.’’

Cde Matemadanda said the pandemic had not spared people living with disabilities and the disadvantaged.

He commended Mr Muduvuri for donating his factory shell in Kadoma to be used as an isolation centre.

Mr Muduvuri said the donation came after the realisation that the disabled community needed a lot of support as they were in danger of contracting Covid-19 since most of them were wheelchair bound.

“They cannot observe the social distance as required by the World Health Organisation since most of them requires assistance in their daily activities,” he said

“There is need to provide food aid, masks and gloves to those who assist the disabled in their daily chores.”

Mr Muduvuri said he was going to donate food hampers to the remaining nine provinces.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Phineas Mapfude from Epworth, who is a vendor commended the gesture by Mr Muduvuri saying it would go a long way in alleviating poverty, especially during the lockdown period.

“I rely on vending to feed my family,” he said.

“I operate at Gulf Complex, but with the lockdown I am finding it difficult to feed my family.”
