Dr Nkomo was a unifier, a nation builder and one of the most outstanding political figures of our time. His legacy must live on. We need to continuously teach our young generation about Dr Nkomo’s great political legacy. If we do not do this, our own heroes will be forgotten. Teaching Dr Nkomo’s legacy from a very tender age to high school and university levels is key. He legacy is part of our history — the struggle against white settler colonialism. He is a beacon and must stand tall in our nationalistic history. — Butholezwe.

Responses to “Nehanda statue to cultivate heroism”
I commend the Government for a statue of the heroine of resistance to colonialism in our country. The statue of veteran nationalist Joshua Nkomo need not to have been erected in Bulawayo alone, but here in Harare too and most other areas in the country as part of nation building. What we need is a national policy on statues. It could be worth our while to consider the Botswana model where they have a composite statue of their founding fathers together. Mbuya Nehanda prognostication of a national struggle will inspire the girl. As a student of history, I would also want to see Chief Makoni and not to forget he was a chief who took head on the British settler colonialists. — Max.
