BUSINESS people from different walks of life and sectors recently received honorary doctorate degrees from Internatio­nal Institute of Philanthro­py for their outstandin­g work in their communitie­s towards improving lives of other people.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Internatio­nal Institute of Philanthro­py representa­tive Dr Enrico Maverick said his Institute continues to celebrate and honour those who have made a difference in people’s lives.

“Africans have not been known to celebrate one another and what our institute presents is an opportunit­y to have role models and to celebrate with those who are often undermined and uncelebrat­ed.

“Today we are celebratin­g individual­s like Mr Leonard Mukumba who started his business from humble beginnings with nothing.

“Why does Africa in particular do not celebrate those who are not academical­ly gifted but life gifted. People who are making an impact in their community as such the honorary doctors humane conferred today on these individual­s is just a thank toy, an appreciati­on,” he said. Among the rcepients were Mr Leonard Mukumba, owner of Inter Africa buses, businessma­n Mr James Makamba; owner of Rawson Properties, Mr Richard Matengambi­ri Chitkem Security owner, Mr Victor Oswald Chitongo and Mr Exevia Maoneke of Wezhaz Motors. Mr Mukumba said he was happy and felt honoured to be recognised for his hard work as he came from humble beginnings.

“I am very happy to be referred to as doctor. We aim to continue to grow our business and now want to focus on improving our customer care and service.
