‘Youth Service revival welcome’

THE ZANU PF Politburo yesterday commended President Mnangagwa and Government for the revival of the National Youth Service which is meant to empowermen­t and instil discipline among the youth.

Speaking at a post-Politburo meeting press conference yesterday, ZANU PF Secretary for Informatio­n and Publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said the revival of the National Youth Service will nurture young people into becoming responsibl­e and resilient citizens.

“We used to have a National Youth Service, now it is being resuscitat­ed, so that our youth can also benefit from all types of training particular­ly, training in terms of various skills. This will help to create employment for themselves. No one should be scared at all by the revival of this programme”.

Cde Khaya Moyo said the ZANU PF national chairman Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri who is also the chairperso­n of the Inter-Ministeria­l taskforce on Covid-19 gave a detailed report on the progress achieved towards the national vaccinatio­n programme against Covid-19.

The party, he said encourages all the people to get vaccinated.

The Politburo, Cde Khaya Moyo said, expressed the need to publicise the risk associated with the long Independen­ce weekend vis-a-vis the transmissi­on of the Covid-19 virus.

“We must all adhere to the World Health Organisati­on protocols and indeed the Minister of Health and Child Care guidelines on Covid-19”.

In addition Cde Khaya Moyo said the Politburo received a report on the state of the Women’s League, by the Secretary for Women’s League Cde Mable Chinomona.

The Politburo, he said commended the Women’s League for the sterling work to help the fight against Covid-19 through the production of reusable party branded face masks and sanitisers.

On the mass defections by members of the opposition parties, who are coming to ZANU PF, he said the Politburo has implored party leaders and structures at every level to embrace the new comrades.

“They are all welcome to the party, those who have decided to come back home. So they must be treated with equal respect and dignity,” he said.

The Politburo also received a report on the activities of the Youth League by the acting Deputy Secretary Cde Tendai Chirau.

The Politburo, he said commended the Youth League for the activities they are doing to mobilise young people to join the party.

He added that the Politburo encourage them to double their efforts towards the five million voters mark in 2023 election.

Secretary for War Veterans’ League Cde Douglas Mahiya also presented a detailed report which was well received.

In response Cde Khaya Moyo said the Politburo resolved to support programmes for the relevant department towards establishi­ng a fully-fledged veterans league structure.

Meanwhile, Cde Chirau commended Government on the Revival of the National Youth Service Programme

“The ZANU PF Youth League receives with great joy and appreciati­on the announceme­nt by Cabinet of its decision to revive the National Youth Service programme in an effort to nurture young people into becoming responsibl­e and resilient citizens with a clear sense of national identity and respect for national values

“National Youth Service is not peculiar to Zimbabwe. Worldwide, it is an accepted and highly-effective interventi­on strategy to inculcate a sense of national pride, and to counter delinquenc­y among the youth, transform young people into agents of nation building,” said Cde Chirau.
