YOUNG people have been advised to be innovative and patriotic in their approach to economic empowerment, Zanu PF acting Youth League deputy secretary, Cde Tendai Chirau, has said.

Speaking at a Youth Entrepreneurship Capital Funding Initiative hosted by the Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (Zicosu) at Harare Polytechnic yesterday, Cde Chirau said young people must be innovative and focus on empowerment as this was important to national development.

The initiative was being attended by students, businesspeople and politicians from across the political divide.

“As youths you have a fundamental role in the development course of our economy as we strive to make Vision 2030 a reality,” he said.

“I, therefore, exhort you to play the frontline role in defending the values of this country. You must be active play- ers in the modernisation and industrialisation agenda being spearheaded by President Mnangagwa through research, innovation and enterprise development enshrined in the new 5.0 Education Strategy.”

Cde Chirau said there was need to aggressively search for strategic business partnerships to explore and exploit the various trade and investment opportunities available.

“I am confident that this initiative will broaden your thinking and perspectives towards the realisation of a united and empowered youth sector in the country,” said Cde Chirau.

Speaking at the same occasion, businessman Mr Chamu Chiwanza said it was important that youths leverage on the peace obtaining and the natural resource endowments in the country as well as the envisaged integrated trade and investment synergies being brought by President Mnangagwa through the ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ mantra.

“Let us recall that in our liberation struggles, the youths of yesteryear paid the supreme sacrifice for us to be free from political bondage, hence that should be in the hearts of you all,” he said.

“They are the heroes and heroines we will always cherish and remember for the roles they played for us to gain political independence. It is now time for you the youths to make your own history and be heroes in the new global economic epoch,” said Mr Chiwanza. Zicosu national president Cde Pijiwest Nhamburo said they will come up with recommendations that they will address to national leadership to foster youth development and inclusivity in all spheres.

“We will ensure that youths progressively work towards the attainment of Vision 2030,” he said.
