ACCRA. — Milovan Rajevac was set to conduct his first Black Stars training session in 11 years in Cope Coast yesterday ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe on Saturday.

The Serbian coach has returned for a second stint, as the Ghana coach, after he was wooed back to try and breathe life into the misfiring West Africans.

He left the same post, in 2010, just after guiding the Black Stars to their first, and only appearance, in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup.

Twenty-seven players were set to open the camp, with a training session, last night, in preparation for this month’s Match Day Three and Match Day Four 2022 World Cup qualifiers, against Zimbabwe.

This follows the decision of the technical team to excuse five players from the squad ahead of the qualifiers. They include Ismail Abdul Ganiyu, Tariqe Fosu Henry, Joseph Alfred Duncan, Mubarak Wakaso, and Emmanuel Gyasi.

Rajevac and his men are seeking to get back to winning ways, following the 0-1 loss to South Africa, in the second Group G game.

The Black Stars, who began the World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia, are second in Group G, with three points, after two rounds of matches. Ghana are scheduled to play the Warriors of Zimbabwe in a double header, with the first leg set for the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.

The Black Stars have arrived in Cape Coast yesterday. ‘’ The public is hereby informed that the Black Stars will train behind closed doors at the Cape Coast Stadium,’’ the Ghana Football Association announced. Zimbabwe skipper, Knowledge Musona, was the first Warrior to arrive in Ghana, for the weekend assignment, against the Black Stars. He flew into Accra from his base in Saudi Arabia. Photos emerged yesterday of Musona being welcomed at the Kotoka International Airport by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Ghana, Kufa Edward Chinoza, after the forward’s arrival, in the West African country. Chinoza, a die-hard football fan, also played a key role, in helping the Warriors settle in Egypt, when they arrived there for their 2006 AFCON campaign.

During that time, he was working at the Zimbabwean Embassy in Cairo.
