A big month for Zim Triathlon

SEPTEMBER was a busy month for World Triathlon Athlete Developmen­t and Education.

This followed the inclusion of two Continenta­l Athlete Developmen­t Camps in Africa and Asia, Silver Lake World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar and Harare OS — World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 Course.

Following the 2021 Africa Triathlon Cup Troutbeck, a group of participat­ing young athletes moved to the 2021 Harare Africa Triathlon — World Triathlon Developmen­t Continenta­l Camp.

The camp hosted 13 athletes and two coaches from Kenya, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa and Zimbabwe — under the guidance of head coaches Pamela Fulton of Zimbabwe and South Africa’s Riana Robertson.

Kyrgyzstan welcomed 19 athletes and five coaches from Iran, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates in the 2021 Cholpon-Ata Asia Triathlon — World Triathlon Developmen­t Continenta­l Camp led by Vicent Beltran (Spain) as head coach.

The location at the Issyk Kul lake is unique in Asia with its altitude of 1600 meters, clear water and air, and cycling opportunit­ies.

The camp was linked to the 2021 Asia Triathlon Sprint Championsh­ips Cholpon-Ata, just as the 2021 Cholpon-Ata World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar, which preceded the competitio­n.

September 17 marked the last face-toface contact day of the 2021 Harare OS - World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 Course.

Coach graduates guided and assessed by Neil MacPherson (South Africa) World Triathlon Coaching Facilitato­r returned home with fresh knowledge and learning experience­s, to continue growing the sport in their areas.

“Triathlon Zimbabwe received Olympic Solidarity funding to hold a World Triathlon Level 1 Coaches Course.
