THE implementation of several infrastructure development projects across the country has gained traction following the introduction of the 100 Day Cycle target-based programme by the Government recently.

The program was established to ensure that all tiers of Government are fully equipped to meet development challenges to attain vision 2030 and to achieve national priority goals as stipulated in the Transitional Stabilisation Programme.

Prior to the latest development, the implementation of government programs has been hindered by various sector performance deficiencies.

Information, Publicity, and Broadcast Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said notable progress had been made on most projects nationwide.

These, she said, varied from education, water and sanitation, and infrastructure development.

“Cabinet received progress reports on a number of projects under the 100 days cycle from various ministers,” she said.

“The Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare, is currently working on launching the Migrant Resource Centre, which was established to empower potential migrants to make informed decisions that affect their mobility.

In terms of education, 44 schools were registered nationwide including Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres, while the upgrading of infrastructure is ongoing at 80 schools, and this includes those destroyed by Cyclone Idai”.

Minister Mutsvangwa said under the same initiative, two e-libraries were established in each of the seven provinces as strategies to ensure continued learning during the Covid19 pandemic.

She added that interactive radio lessons covering curriculum content as well as offering guidance and counselling to students have since been introduced.

Minister Mutsvangwa said the District Development Fund (DDF) was in the midst of constructing three bridges at Gunguhwe (Gokwe North), Somgolo (Lupane), and Musukwe (Hurungwe).

“These are under construction and at different levels of completion. In addition, work on the pipe drifts at Gonde (Matabeleland South) and Ngomahuru (Masvingo), is in progress and will be completed by the end of the cycle.

“Under road maintenance, the Siyawareva-Chenhaka (Masvingo) and Mbembesanwa-Marimunha (Matabeleland South) roads have been completed, while the Binga-Siyakobvu (Binga), Nyakasikana-Masango-Karanda (Mt Darwin) and Monte Casino (Marondera) roads are now at different stages of completion,” she said.

The Minister added that the procurement of materials for rehabilitating spillways of Nyamavanga Dam (Zvimba) and Chantali was now in progress.

Two piped water schemes, she said, were constructed and completed at Chitida (Hwedza) and (Nyamandlovu Tsholotsho).

In addition, Minister Mutsvangwa said 1 188 boreholes out of the targeted 1 400 had been maintained nationwide, while eight staff houses were under construction at Nenyuka Primary School (Gokwe North).

“A lot of progress was also noted on projects falling under the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

These include several agricultural initiatives on prison farms, the construction of 17 blocks of houses at Chikurubi Maximum Dog Training School and Gunhill Staff Housing Project, decentralisation of the Legal Aid Directorate (LAD) to District Level, and Construction of the Lupane, Gwanda, Chiredzi, and Epworth New Magistrate Court Complexes,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
