Lady Chevrons/Ireland series for Harare

- Brandon Moyo

AMID speculation over where the white ball series between Zimbabwe senior women’s national cricket team and Ireland women will be played, the venue for the series has been confirmed as Harare Sports Club.

The series is set to be played between January and February with eight limited overs matches in line. The two teams will play five T20Is and three One Day Internationals (ODIs), all at the country’s ceremonial home of cricket.

The tour will be bowled off by the three ODIs which are scheduled for January 18, 21 and 23. After the three 50-over matches, the T20Is will follow, starting on January 26 with the other games pencilled for January 28 and 30. The last two encounters to round up the series will be played on February 1 and 2.

Ireland women last visited Zimbabwe in September 2021, in what was the Lady Chevrons’ first official one day match after they were granted ODI status in April of the year. In their first encounter, Lady Chevrons skipper, Mary-Anne Musonda scored a century on debut.

The visitors Ireland won the four match ODI series 3-1. The Lady Chevrons and Ireland Women, however, last played together in September last year in the semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Ireland won that match by just four runs to end Zimbabwe’s hopes of a World Cup appearance.

The Lady Chevrons and Ireland are part of the 10 teams that will be competing for the two available slots to the World Cup alongside Uganda, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United States of America (USA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The dates for the tournament are yet to be confirmed.

Cricket Ireland named their squad for the series in December; however, Zimbabwe is yet to officially announce their team for the home series.
