Media Commission starts renewal of accreditation

- Herald Correspondent

ZIMBABWE Media Commission (ZMC) has called on all media service providers and journalists to renew their registration certificates and accreditation cards.

The accreditation process starts at Commission House at 108 Swan Drive, Alexandra Park, Harare, but the commission will be sending teams around the country for non-Harare journalists.

In a statement, the commission said it is committed to accrediting all journalists and practitioners within the first quarter of 2024.

“The dates for accreditation of journalists and practitioners based in various regions or parts of the country shall be announced in due course. The commission shall announce the dates of its visits to various centres by the end of January,” said (ZMC).

ZMC said all mass media service providers whose certificates of registration expired should renew them immediately.

“To be considered for renewal of registration of operating certificates and accreditation of journalists and media practitioners, mass media services should have paid their 0,5 percent statutory levy for the year 2023 and other previous years,” said (ZMC).

The commission urged the media houses with outstanding levy payments to settle their arrears immediately before seeking to accredit their journalists or renew expired registration certificates.

“Only journalists and practitioners whose media houses have paid the statutory levy and have renewed their registration certificates will be considered for accreditation.

“Accreditation fees will remain as gazetted through Statutory Instrument 65 of 2022. Access to Information and Protection of Privacy (Registration, Accreditation, and Levy) Regulations, 2022 (No. 10), ZMC said.
