A LOCAL trust has bailed out child president Naville Mavu with school fees with the thrust to encourage his exceptional performance in his academics.

Southerton Constituency Development Trust (SCDT), in partnership with Andrew Makahamadze Foundation (AMF), joined hands in philanthropic work to pay tuition fees for Child President Mavu who is an Upper Sixth Form pupil at Goromonzi High School in Mashonaland East Province.

Child President Mavu was elected last June as the head of the Junior Parliament, taking over from Unathi Nyoni whose term had expired.

SCDT is a trust formed with the purpose primarily of extending a helping hand to the needy and other developmental purposes which are humanitarian in nature under the chairmanship of Mr Andrew Makahamadze.

Child President Mavu is currently doing Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science which as the core of the country’s needs and are in line with the forecast national goals and priorities.

Speaking after receiving the donation, Child President’s father Mr Never Mavu expressed gratitude to the trust, insisting the gesture came as a surprise to the family as they were not expecting it during such a time.

Mr Mavu said his child was very promising in his academics, adding the initiative would augment his efforts to complement the child’s brilliance.

“We thank God for the gesture, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the SCDT, Mr Andrew Makahamadze and the entire staff of the AMF for such a gesture, I’m trying to figure out whether we are dreaming or if it is happening live to us. We did not expect this at a time when everyone is running around to get school fees for their children. It’s a difficult time for someone to remember you,” said Mr Mavu.

“I wish many people in our community could emulate Mr Makahamadze and I pray that this may be also extended to others who are in need because this is faith in action. The practical side of the good work,” he said.

“My child Naville is a very promising child who is studying sciences at Upper Six level and as a family we are looking forward to something great from him,” said Mr Mavu.

Mr Mavu said SCDT was helping a considerable number of youths in the area and countrywide to come up with their entrepreneurial projects as part of youth empowerment.

Speaking after handing over the donation, SCDT chairman Mr Makahamadze said it was a calling from God for him to help the people in need.

Mr Makahamadze said he recognised the Child President as the head of the junior parliament, attributing his efforts as a part of encouraging him in his academic progress.

“We are doing this as SCDT and AMF with a sincere heart to encourage our Child President, Naville, to excel in his academics without any hindrance. To us it’s a calling from God to always extend a helping hand to the needy people. We recognise our Child President as the head of the junior Parliament,” said Mr Makahamadze.
