Fury as Palestine death toll rises

- Ivan Zhakata Herald Correspondent

THE Palestinian death toll has reached an unprecedented level as the Israeli forces continue to kill innocent civilians in the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement yesterday, the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr Tamer Almassri said the Israeli “genocidal” war on Gaza has so far killed more than 22 835 Palestinians, with the “occupying force continuing its aggressive mission of killing innocent children, pregnant women, while destroying schools and hospitals in Gaza.”

Ambassador Almassri said of the 22 835 lives that have been lost, 10 000 were children, 7 000 were women, and 7 000 were missing individuals presumed dead under the rubble.

He condemned the Israeli offensive and vowed that his people would defend their land until their last breath.

“The ambassador of the State of Palestine, Dr Tamer Almassri, condemns in the strongest terms the genocidal war committed by the Israeli government against our people for the 94th day in a row, with Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right coalition exploiting the excuse of self-defense to empty the Gaza Strip of its population, either through murder and mass displacement or by destroying all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip and turning it into an uninhabitable land, within the framework of an expansionist Israeli colonial plan aimed at erasing the Palestinian cause and liquidating the rights of our people,” Ambassador Almassri said.

“Let it be known that the Palestinian people will not leave their land and will continue to resist the Israeli occupation through all means necessary to achieve their independent state of Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital, and the Palestinian people will never lift the white flag. Israeli policies of settlement expansion, genocide, and displacement will never liquidate the Palestinian cause but rather increase instability within the region and the world.

“Currently, reports say 58 416 people have been injured since Israel launched a brutal offensive in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza, claiming that it wants to destroy Hamas. Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, reportedly killing 1500 people mostly civilians who were attending a beach party.”

Media reports claim that 1. 1 million children are suffering from malnutrition and diseases, and another 1. 9 million Palestinians are reportedly displaced multiple times in Gaza.
