Kettina Jupa ready for ZWSL

- Gerald Sibanda Sports Reporter

HIGHLANDERS Royals midfielder Kettina Jupa has opened up on how excited she is to be playing in the Zimbabwe Women’s Super League this season after gaining promotion with the team.

It will be the first time Highlanders have representatives in top flight football for both male and women and Jupa, who was the top goalscorer in their Zifa Southern Region Division One campaign, said she cannot wait to make her top flight debut and showcase her talent to the nation.

“I cannot wait to showcase my talent to everyone out there. It is a great thing for football in our country that big teams like Highlanders also consider female footballers, it is something that inspires,” said Jupa.

The Royals finished the league with 41 points, one ahead of second positioned Loxion Vipers in what was a hotly contested title race. They will replace fellow Bulawayo sides Borrow Jets and Queen Lozikeyi who were relegated from the big girls’ league, hence they will be the only club from Bulawayo.

Responding to Zimpapers Sports on her team’s targets for the upcoming season, she was focused with survival from relegation in their maiden campaign.

“It is not going to be an easy ride for most of us simply because we have an inexperienced team, but for me I think the most important thing is to make sure that we survive and get to another season, that would be something big for us,” said Jupa.

Her side will also be hoping that other talented players like Providence Moyo, Sakhile Masuku and Sobala Sibanda will be on their best form come the commencement of the season.

Herentals Queens were crowned champions for the ZWSL for a second year in a row and dates for the new season are yet to be confirmed.
