- Latwell Nyangu Youth Interactive Writer

A large office represents prosperity, status, and comfort, and it is what every recent graduate wants for their place of employment but the reality often differs from the dream.

The dream of a large office space is deeply ingrained in the minds of every graduate.

It represents success, prestige, and a comfortable work environment.

While the dream of a large office space may not be attainable for every graduate, it is crucial to remember that success is not solely determined by the size of one’s workspace.

Adaptability, resilience, and a focus on professional development will ultimately lead to a fulfilling career, regardless of the office space.

January seems to be cruising fast but I know many of you have choked, this month always gives students a hard time since it’s associated with the return to school and college.

This week, I bring you one of the most important issues that remains a thorn in the flesh for many graduates. It’s a sad reality we all experience unless you have luck always on your side. Just know we were born different.

I have observed that, after graduating students go through a torrid time of making some job applications which some of them are never replied. Some are even thrown in the bins and some remain in the drawers at some receptions

Even worse, some are kept at the security booths by the main door.

Students are unaware of all these issues and will never contact HR offices.

Fellow students, graduation signifies the successful conclusion of an academic journey and the end of an important chapter in a student’s life. However, the shift from being a student to a working professional is not always easy.

Numerous graduates encounter numerous obstacles in their quest for a lucrative profession.

This transition from college to the working world is a very challenging experience for many students after graduation. Despite the hard work and dedication students put into their studies, some graduates find themselves struggling to adapt to the demands of the job market.

The first months after graduating are always the most terrible because you understand that you need to find a perfect job.

You dream of a large office and drinking some coffee in that office.

You send your job application to different companies to show your best skills and university bits of knowledge.

Unfortunately, real life shows that your application is not ideal and prospect employers show that they are not ready to solve your career issues.

The journey of finding a job after graduation is really a daunting and frustrating experience for many graduates.

There are numerous challenges and obstacles that can make this process seem never-ending.

But the life of a student needs no regret and never looking back.

Regret is an appalling waste of energy, you can’t build on it, it’s only good for walling in.

University is not a kids’game, but it takes one’s responsibility to build a name and achieve your desires.

I will share some of the stumbling blocks for many graduates making a break into the world of the job market.

After graduation, many students struggle to make an impact in their chosen field. This can be attributed to various factors, including inadequate preparation, lack of opportunities, and personal challenges.

One reason students may struggle after graduation is due to inadequate preparation. During their academic journey, students may focus primarily on acquiring knowledge and passing exams, rather than developing practical skills.

As a result, they may find themselves unprepared for the demands of the working world.

To address this issue, students should consider participating in internships, joining clubs and organizations, and engaging in extracurricular activities that provide hands-on experience and develop their soft skills.

Another factor that can hinder a graduate’s impact is the lack of job opportunities.

To overcome this challenge, graduates should be proactive in networking, attending job fairs, and seeking out mentors who can offer guidance and support in their job search.

Additionally, they should consider diversifying their skill set by pursuing further education or training in high-demand fields.

Personal challenges can also play a significant role in a graduate’s ability to make an impact.

Financial stress, mental health issues, and family responsibilities can all contribute to difficulties in finding and maintaining a job.

To address these issues, graduates should prioritize self-care and seek professional help when needed. They should also explore resources such as career counselling, services, financial planning assistance, and mental health support to help manage these challenges.

I have also noted that one major reason for the challenges faced by recent graduates is the skill gap between what they have learned in college and the skills required by employers. This discrepancy can lead to difficulties in finding suitable jobs or adjusting to the expectations of the workplace.

Fellow learned many successful professionals attribute their career advancements to their network of contacts. Unfortunately, some graduates may not have developed a strong network during their college years, leaving them at a disadvantage when seeking job opportunities.

Many students enter college without a clear understanding of their career goals. This lack of direction can lead to difficulty in choosing a major, selecting courses that align with their interests, and ultimately, finding a job that suits their skills and passions.

The rapid pace of technological advancements and the evolving job market can make it difficult for recent graduates to stay updated on industry trends and job requirements.

This lack of adaptability can lead to challenges in securing employment and adjusting to new roles.

I pray that you all get jobs and we have a toast!
