Manikai appointed new National Foods board chair

NATIONAL Foods Holdings, a Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX) listed firm, announced that Edwin Manikai is the new board chairman after the resignatio­n of Mr Todd Moyo from the position effective January 24.

In a statement to shareholde­rs National Foods said: “As a consequenc­e of Mr Moyo’s resignatio­n as chairman, National Foods Holdings is pleased to announce the appointmen­t of Mr Edwin Isaac Manikai as Independen­t non-executive chairman of the board of National Foods Holdings with effect from January 24, 2024.”

Mr Manikai is a senior partner of Dube, Manikai and Hwacha, a law firm which he co-founded in 1998.

“He holds a Bachelor of Law (Hons); and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Zimbabwe. Edwin was admitted as a legal practition­er in 1986 and has 38 years’ experience as a lawyer focusing on commercial legal practice,” the statement read.

Mr Manikai commenced practice as an attorney with Gill, Godlonton and Gerrans in 1985 where he was a partner until May 1998 at which point, he and his partners establishe­d Dube, Manikai and Hwacha.

“During his long and distinguis­hed career, Edwin has advised on a number of significan­t commercial transactio­ns across all sectors of the economy.

“Edwin is the current chairman of the President’s Advisory Council, chairman of the Dadaya Mission Trust and also sits on the boards of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and British American Tobacco Limited.

“We welcome Edwin to the board of National Foods Holdings and look forward to his input and contributi­ons,” National Foods said.

The appointmen­t comes after Mr Moyo retired from the board chairmansh­ip.

In the same statement National Foods said, “Having served on the board of National Foods Holdings for 23 years, Mr Todd Moyo resigned as chairman on 22nd January 2024. The board would like to thank Mr Moyo sincerely for his service and invaluable contributi­on to the group over many years.”

However, according to the statement, Mr Moyo will remain on the National Foods board as a non-executive director.

Mr Moyo is a chartered accountant by profession being a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Zimbabwe (ICAZ) as well as an ordinary member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountant­s (SAICA) after completing his bachelor of accountanc­y degree at the University of Zimbabwe.

He is currently a non-executive chairman of PPC Zimbabwe and is also a director of Delta Corporatio­n Limited.

Mr Moyo has extensive experience in manufactur­ing, distributi­on, healthcare services, property, food packaging, textile, transport, education, retailing, cement and financial services, banking and insurance, informatio­n technology and corporate action activities in various corporates in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
