Golf ref Murewa for Scotland
VETERAN Zimbabwean golf referee Alec Murewa will leave the country tomorrow for a high profile seminar at St Andrews Royal and Ancient in Scotland.
The 56 year-old, who started golf officiating in 2008, will be one of the only two African participants out of 56 at the seminar that will run from February 6-9.
Speaking ahead of his departure, Murewa said he is very happy for the opportunity and is looking forward to learn more on golf rules which he will take back home.
“I am very happy for this opportunity and I believe it will help me and the country at large. As a referee it is rare for someone to get these chances and I am going to utilise it wholeheartedly. Being part of the seminar gives me high hopes and attending to St Andrews is awesome as it is the home of golf,” said Murewa.
The Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club based member was involved in top amateur tournaments before he was elevated to Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association tournaments, which included Sunshine Tour sanctioned events.
Murewa said his vision, when he returns from the seminar, is to assist the governance of the sport.
“When I return from the seminar I would like to assist the local governing body with technical issues on running order of merit points tournaments. I will be also happy to help in training more personnel in Rules up to Level Two so that more provinces will have technical personnel.
“I will also take my ideas to assist golf clubs with technical recommendations on course marking and setup as well as drafting their local rules,” added Murewa.
