St Paul’s Musami regroup after decades

- Curtworth Masango Sports Reporter

IT needed five decades for FC Platinum in 2017 to replicate the feat that was achieved by St Paul’s Musami to be the only club based outside Harare and Bulawayo to win the PSL title.

Reigning Premiership champions Ngezi Platinum joined the list last season.

Given St Paul’s Musami’s place in the history of Zimbabwe football, businessman Timothy Gowo has revived the club and they will be participating in the Eastern Region Division One league this season.

Unheralded 25-year-old Clifford Dzvairo has been given the mandate to lead the club and the youthful coach has been leading their training sessions since they started their preseason about two weeks ago.

“So far we have had two weeks in training camp and we are quite impressed. It’s only that we are still in a period where we are taking a lot of players so that we can assess them and get the best team possible from the whole group,” said Dzvairo.

“At the moment we are having almost 46 players who are still looking to impress the coaches or the technical team so that’s where we are at the moment.”

Dzvairo said the whole squad is motivated.

“It’s a big motivation on my side, as a junior coach who is trying to build a name and climb the ladder in terms of the coaching fraternity. For me to be associated with such a big brand in Zimbabwean football, a team that was crowned champions in 1966 is a very big thing for me and all the guys I am working with. We are motivated to carry the name and not disappoint.

“So we will try to build a very strong team and try to do everything possible to represent the people of Murehwa and Musami as well as the brand itself,” he said.

Among the players assessed is former Warriors winger Marshall Mudehwe.
