WhaWha trio reunite at CAPS Utd

- Bruce Chikuni Sports Reporter

FORMER WhaWha trio of Jayden Bakari, Terrence Daka, and Munyaradzi Chirwa are preparing to line up together once more at CAPS United this season.

Just two seasons ago, they helplessly watched the Prison Wardens side lose their Premier Soccer League status.

It was a campaign to forget, but at the same time, their efforts did not go unnoticed.

In most cases, their fine efforts were blurred by the team’s poor show.

But, Dynamos were keeping a close eye on Bakari and they managed to outbid Highlanders, Simba Bhora, and Manica Diamonds.

Bakari also won the Castle Lager Premiership Most Promising Player award before his move to DeMbare.

CAPS United also signed Daka from Whawha and he made a huge statement in his debut campaign with Makepeke last season.

This is now his second season with the Green family, and a lot is expected from the utility player. Makepeke fans will, however, be a bit worried by Chirwa’s story as he joined Sheasham after leaving Whawha.

Sheasham lasted just one season in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League meaning Chirwa’s last two seasons have ended in relegation. However, this could be the season when he finally gets rid of this misfortune, which has made it difficult for him to enjoy the off-season holiday.

This reunion will top the list of Whawha coach Luke Petros’ proudest moments.

Petros made a huge gamble by ignoring his peers’ preferred way of recycling old players and giving this trio a chance.

CAPS United skipper, Tonderai Mateyaunga, believes the newly acquired players will provide the missing spark.

“It’s always good to see new, better players joining the club. It shows that CAPS United is still a dream team for most of the players.

“I can’t say much about what is expected from them, but I believe challenging for the title is something they all came prepared for.

“New players will always give you something better, and I want to urge them to make use of this platform by making a name for themselves,” said Mateyaunga.

The league’s fixtures for this campaign were released yesterday and Makepeke are hosting Chicken Inn on their first assignment of the campaign. It will also be a tough reunion for Tostao Kwashi, who spent the better part of his coaching career at CAPS United as Lloyd Chitembwe’s understudy.

The trio of Lincoln Mangayira, Thulani Joseph, and Clive Augusto are also going to make this fixture exciting, as they have been in Chitembwe’s dressing room before.

But, it will be all eyes on Joseph, who was the club’s best player last season.

Chitembwe even labelled him as the best player he has ever coached in his career, despite guiding stars like Khama Billiat, Nyasha Mushekwi, Method Mwanjali, Tafadzwa Rusike, Edmore ‘Zikeeper’ Sibanda, and Devon Chafa.
