CAPS United to play for the fans

- Tadious Manyepo Sports Reporter

CAPS United have disappointed their loyal fan base for the past few seasons after finishing marathons empty-handed.

In worst-case scenarios, the fans have had to endure the pain of seeing their team fighting against relegation.

Just last season, Makepekepe surrendered the bragging rights when losing both league fixtures to their arch-rivals Dynamos who also eliminated them from the Chibuku Super Cup.

But the Green Machine supporters have always shown the team their unconditional love, cheering the spirits of their players even when the chips were off.

And that has not escaped the attention of both the club’s technical team and players with skipper Tonderai Mateyaunga saying Makepekepe will be playing for their fans this coming season.

The Premier Soccer League kicks-off in a fortnight with Makepekepe hosting one of the most consistent teams in the division over the past seasons Chicken Inn.

“I would like to thank our fans. They have always been backing us through thick and thin. They have been there for us in good and bad times. We appreciate their support. This year we are going to play for them,” Mateyaunga said.

“They are the owners of the team and the game we play so we have to pay back their emotions.

“Our job is to make sure that we play hard and win games for them so that they enjoy coming to the stadiums to support us. “CAPS United is a very big institution. There is a lot of demand and we can’t afford to always disappoint.”

The CAPS United goalkeeper said everything is fine at the team and the environment allows them to challenge for silverware this coming season.

“We are going to be competitive. If you look at it, we have not been doing very well in the past seasons. That is not so common with CAPS United but this year we have a chance to do well. “I have to be bold on this. This season we are going to win the championship. That is the target, we can’t hide.

“If we fail to do that we have to win the Chibuku Super Cup. We can’t go on and on without winning silverware.” Makepekepe has been one of the most active teams in the transfer market this off-season signing several players. They have taken aboard the 2022 Most Promising Player in the League winner Jayden Bakari from Dynamos and also welcomed Ralph Kawondera who was with Manica Diamonds last year.

They have also landed ex-Yadah Stars defender Brian Kadamanja, veteran Bruce Kangwa who was a free agent after leaving Tanzanian side Azam where he spent seven successful years, Wayne Makuva from Ngezi Platinum as well as Junior Bunjira from Golden Eagles.
