ZIMBABWE’S senior women’s cricket team, Lady Chevrons is set to tour India as part of the Women’s T20 World Cup

ICC Global Qualifier preparations.

The Lady Chevrons are set to leave for India on Monday for a 10-day training camp and return on March 2.

The training camp is part of preparations for the Women’s T20 World

ICC Cup qualifiers set for April in the United Arab Emirates.

New Lady Chevron’s coach, Walter Chawaguta, confirmed that the team will regroup today as part of the preparations for the qualifiers.

“After the Ireland series, we gave the ladies a break and we have since resumed our preparations for the World Cup qualifiers.

“We started with provincial training sessions on Monday, which had players of national interest in different provinces working with the provincial coaches and now we will have a national mini-training camp here in Harare starting tomorrow (today) before we leave for India on Monday,” said Chawaguta.

As part of the training camp, the Lady Chevrons will play matches with different sides in India.

“We will be going to India at Omnitex for training camp, and as part of the training camp we will play some games to see areas we need to focus on in match scenarios,” said Chawaguta.

Chawaguta has his eyes on qualifying for the Women’s T20 Cup to be hosted

ICC by Bangladesh between September and October later this year.

“On the short term we need to qualify for the World Cup.

“And I believe we have what it takes to qualify for the World Cup with all the players and we have the resources that can get us over the line.

“We are not just looking at qualifying but we are looking at going on to do well at the World Cup,” said Chawaguta.

Zimbabwe will battle it out with nine other countries for the two slots at the World Cup at the global qualifiers.
