Jere pleads with ZIFA FIB

- Bruce Chikuni Sports Reporter

CASTLE Lager Premiership chairman, Farai Jere, is pleading with ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairman, Lincoln Mutasa’s First Instance Board to exercise kindness when inspecting and approving stadiums for the 2024 season.

Jere showed great concern during the league’s sponsorship unveiling with Delta Beverages yesterday.

The league is set to get underway next weekend, and the FIB is yet to decide on the capital’s three possible venues.

Rufaro, Heart Stadium, and National Sports Stadium are awaiting approval.

Simba Bhora’s Wadzanai Stadium and Sakubva, which is going to be Manica Diamonds’ fortress, are believed to be 80 percent complete.

They also run the risk of playing their home fixtures elsewhere should FIB downplay their plea.

Jere appealed to FIB through Mutasa to grant all stadiums under consideration a grace period to complete what needs to be done.

“Fans are being starved of local football because there is no point in having most of the games played outside Harare.

“Unfortunately, our grounds have been the biggest let down in the growth of our football, but I also feel that FIB should make it possible for those who have shown great commitment to improving these stadiums by approving them to host matches while doing the final touch-ups.

“I think Rufaro is now ready, and I will be disappointed if it is not approved because what I saw was very encouraging, they just need to work on a few areas to tick all boxes, but the important ones have been ticked,” said Jere. Jere added they expect an explosive Premiership season this year.

“As we embark on the upcoming season, I am confident that our league will continue to be a beacon of excitement, competition, and sportsmanship.

“The support provided by our sponsors goes far beyond financial contributions; it is an investment in the dreams and aspirations of young athletes, the growth of soccer communities, and the enduring legacy of our league.

“In the coming days, we anticipate a thrilling season filled with intense rivalries, breathtaking goals, and unforgettable moments.

“Together, we will make this season an extraordinary journey for players, fans, and all our stakeholders. Thank you once again to our valued sponsors for being an integral part of the Premier Soccer League family.”
