Dynamos target Castle Challenge Cup

- Tadious Manyepo Sports Reporter

GENESIS “KAKA” MANGOMBE wants to start his substantive reign at Dynamos in the best way possible.

The former Yadah Stars coach, who has been at the helm of the Glamour Boys on an interim basis since mid-last year, has been handed a two-year contract by the giants.

And he begins his adventure on a full time basis this afternoon when his charges face Ngezi Platinum Stars in the Castle Challenge Cup at Baobab.

The season-precursor match kicks-off at 2pm.

Mangombe masterminded the 2-0 victory Dynamos posted in the Chibuku Super Cup final against the same opponent at the same venue last year.

But a lot has changed, including his own status, since that historical feat three months ago.

“We are not reading much into what happened in the past,” said Mangombe.

“We were at Baobab two, three months ago and we got the better of them in the final of the Chibuku Super Cup.

“But that doesn’t guarantee us victory in this Castle Challenge Cup match at the same venue.

“If you look at it, despite us winning 2-0, the match was very balanced and we exploited very small margins which we picked in their own team.

“That is how tight football games can be and this coming match is no different. So we are expecting a highly-competitive game between two highly competitive teams.

“I am sure the fans will enjoy the game and get value for their money. Ngezi Platinum Stars are the reigning league champions and they are very tough to play against. They have a very good coach and really good players if you look at their roster.

“That makes the match a tough one because we are playing the best team we had in the league marathon last year. That is why I am saying the match will be highly competitive.”

Mangombe will throw his new recruits into the fray in this match.
