- Mutsawashe Mashandure Herald Correspondent

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has promoted 976 Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officers from the ranks of Assistant Principal Correctional Officers to Senior Assistant Commissioner.

Those that were promoted include 166 commissioned officers and 810 non-commissioned officers from all 10 administrative provinces and national headquarters.

Three commissioners were promoted including one female officer, and nine assistant commissioners who included two females.

President Mnangagwa also promoted one principal correctional officer to the rank of chief correctional officer.

Speaking after the conferment of badges to the promoted officers in Harare yesterday, ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu urged them to work hard.

He also said merit was considered in coming up with the promotions.

“In that regard, it is our sincere hope that you will continue to purposefully serve the organisation with goal-oriented mindsets, diligence, commitment and most importantly with loyalty and patriotism to our country and Government leadership,” he said.

Quoting from the Bible in Romans 13 v 1, Comm-Gen Chihobvu encouraged all ZPCS members to honour the national leadership.

The elevation, added Comm-Gen Chihobvu, comes with increased responsibility, influence and authority to execute more challenging assignments than before.

“I therefore urge you to continue being vigilant, well-focused and determined, given the tasks that are ahead of you as we seek to transform the organisation.

“Continue to work hard with the available resources, and inspire your subordinates and colleagues by exhibiting good leadership qualities and discipline.

“Consequently, you must lead by example and ensure that there is zero tolerance to indiscipline and laziness so that you earn model status.”

Comm-Gen Chihobvu said as management, expectations are that one should always strive to bring forth constructive, creative, and innovative ideas that should be able to turnaround the fortunes of the organisation.

“You are not asked to re-invent the wheel but to simply turn it with much increased dynamism and determination for enhanced organisational performance towards service delivery.

“There is a clarion call for senior officers to have unity of purpose and oneness in all our endeavours. You must therefore shove aside instances of individual differences and promote teamwork.

“While we play different numbers or roles during the discharge of our duties, we remain one team, that is Team ZPCS,” said Comm-Gen Chihobvu.
