Ex-ZTA head Karikoga Kaseke dies
FORMER Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) chief executive Karikoga Kaseke has died.
He was 62.
Cde Kaseke died yesterday morning in a hospital in Harare.
His wife, Mrs Irene Kaseke, confirmed that Mr Kaseke died following a deterioration in his health.
Mr Kaseke suffered a stroke in 2018 which forced him to retire from ZTA on health grounds.
His sister, Mrs Hazvinei Kaseke-Nyamupinga, said she had lost a brother and protector who was known as a unifier in their family.
“It is painful to lose a person who is our pillar in the family. This is difficult to accept.”
Another wife, Mrs Betty Kaseke, described her husband as a unifier, hardworking and lovely person who integrated families and relatives and was dedicated to his country.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course as some members of the family are still to arrive from their various bases.
“We are waiting for our parents to arrive so that we can plan together. My husband changed the lives of many people.
“It is difficult to believe that he is no more. He was also dedicated and loyal to his country,” Mrs Kaseke said.
Zanu PF Harare provincial chairperson Cde Ratidzo Mukarati expressed shock at his death.
“We are saddened by the death of husband to Cde Betty Kaseke. We are with you in our prayers. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” she said.
Mourners are gathered at 38 Boscobel Drive, Highlands.
Mr Kaseke was not only a notable figure in Zimbabwe’s tourism sector, but also a retired colonel in the Zimbabwe National Army reflecting a diverse career spanning military and civilian service.
His leadership at ZTA showcased his dedication to promoting Zimbabwe as a prime tourism destination, contributing significantly to the country’s economy and international image.
