Chinhoyi Stars bank on council to upgrade stadium

CHINHOYI Stars chairman Tapiwa Chitate said they are optimistic that the council will put more effort into sprucing up Chinhoyi stadium ahead of the 2024 Northern Region Soccer League Division One.

Chitate gave the sentiments after witnessing Chinhoyi crumble to a 1-3 defeat to visitors Chapungu on Saturday.

Chinhoyi Stars intend to use Chinhoyi Stadium as their venue for home matches.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Chitate said.

“You can see the state of the stadium. We are very grateful that the council wants to spruce up and renovate the stadium. It will be vital for our season, therefore, we need it in the best condition and it will be a big boost for our team.

Chitate pleaded with the corporate world to also chip in and help develop football in Chinhoyi.

“We have a big challenge in terms of sponsorship. We are appealing to sponsors to come on board and help in the growth and development of football in Chinhoyi.

“It seems most of the sponsors are concentrating on premiership clubs, but football cascades to the grassroots level, and we are calling out for their hand.

“Despite losing today’s match I believe the squad has done enough preparations and we are ready for the new season.

However, Chinhoyi Stars coach, Clay Mudekwa, bemoaned the lack of positional discipline by his players.

“We have quite a lot of corrections or homework to do. We have to work hard as our boys still need to get our game plan correct.

“They still need to improve on positional discipline and how they conduct themselves during the games and that leaves us with a lot of homework.

“As a coach sometimes you see you have to toughen up things on these players to get the desired result hence we will be working on that too,” said Mudekwa.
