It gets worse for Kadewere

-

ZIMBABWE international striker Tino Kadewere’s club Nantes sank deeper into French Ligue 1 relegation troubles on Saturday after a shock 1-3 defeat at home to Strasbourg, making it four losses in their last six games.

Remarkably, it was Strasbourg’s First league win of 2024 as they went into the match after three defeats and two draws in their previous five games and an eight-match win-less run extending into late last year.

Dutch striker Emmanuel Emegha scored twice.

Emegha, a tall centre forward, has been one of the revelations of the league season, with seven goals in 22 matches.

His brace helped Strasbourg secure its first league win in 2024 and move to 12th place in the standings, six points above the relegation zone. Nantes slumped to a third consecutive loss and stayed 16th, lagging four points behind Strasbourg,

Kevin Gameiro opened the scoring for Strasbourg after just three minutes before Eray Comert put the teams level from close range before the interval.

Emegha made it 2-1 around the hourmark with a right-foot shot and completed his brace in the 78th minute after dribbling past goalkeeper Alban Lafont.

Kadewere started the match and lasted 66 minutes as he was taken off four minutes after Strasbourg had regained the lead.

It was his ninth league appearance for Nantes since his move at the beginning of January.

Kadewere joined Nantes on loan from Olympique Lyon with the option to make the transfer permanent if they survive relegation.

But the way things are looking, Kadewere might be looking for another club soon — Sports Reporter/AP.
