Father, son (16) nabbed for stock theft

A FOUR-MONTH-OLD infant died in an inferno at a neighbour’s house where the baby had been left by her mother in Shamva.

Mashonalan­d Central acting provincial police spokespers­on Assistant Inspector Tonny Nyandoro said the incident happened last Friday at Low-Density village.

The mother, Ms Kudakwashe Mabhande, left baby Joshua Mupeusa in the custody of a neighbour, Ms Blessing Nyahunzvi (32).

Asst Insp Nyandoro said at around 5pm, Ms Nyahunzvi left the baby inside the hut and went to fetch water about 800 metres away.The baby was asleep at that point.

Upon her return, the hut was on fire and Ms Nyahunzvi heard Ms Tsitsi Tezeni (30), calling for help. Efforts to put out the fire with the help of neighbours were fruitless.

A report was made at ZRP Shamva and police officers attended the scene.

TNo foul play is suspected.

POLICE in Mhangura have arrested a father and his son for stock theft.

Taurai Takawira (43) of Plot 56 Deerhurst Farm, Mhangura and Tinotenda Takawira (16) of L13 Damba location, Mhangura, were arrested Monday.

Provincial police spokespers­on, Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the arrest in a statement yesterday.

It is alleged that the two were spotted by villagers driving a Honda Fit registrati­on number AEL-0983.

Police officers searched the vehicle and found blood-stained buckets.

Further interviews led the two to admit that they had stolen a beast at Mr Peter Chikowore’s Plot 1 Riversdale Farm in Mhangura.

“They later led police to the place they had slaughtere­d it and a hide was recovered.

“They further led the police to House number Q09 Damba, Mhangura where the carcass was recovered from Ruth Mabandi (39),” he said in a statement.

The head was recovered at Seven Million canteen, Mhangura from Mercy Kuzamba (38) and the hide matched with the missing beast.
