Old Mazowe Road closed for facelift
THE Old Mazowe Road has been closed to public traffic starting last Sunday up to July 15 to allow for its upgrading and reconstruction.
As the road rehabilitation exercise continues to gather pace, the tarring of the once-dilapidated Domboshava stretch along Mverechena area is also in progress.
In a notice, Bitumen World said it will be designing and constructing the roads leading to the New Parliament ahead of the SADC Head of States Summit to be held in August 2024.
“The motoring public and local residents are advised that from March 24, 2024, Old Mazowe Road will be closed to public traffic to allow for the upgrading and reconstruction of 13km of Old Mazowe Road.
“The closure is estimated to last until the 15th of July 2024,” reads the statement.
Bitumen World advised the motoring public and pedestrians who make use of this road to adhere to alternative routes.
“Reduce speed when approaching construction zones and adhere to the traffic control signage posted along the various sections of the road being worked on.
“Drive with due care and attention, be patient and follow instructions or signals from the traffic controllers in construction zones,” said Bitumen World.
The firm also advised motorists to give themselves extra travel time to allow for expected delays likely to be experienced.
Also, to give right of way to all construction vehicles and respect the safety of their teams carrying out the works at all times.
On Domboshava road the Transport and Infrastructural Development Ministry said: “Surfacing (tarring) in progress on Domboshava road (Mverechena area).”
A motorist along Domboshava Road, Mrs Evelyn Gumbo said the road has been in a sorry state.
“During harmonised election campaigns at a rally addressed by Vice President Kembo Mohadi he assured that the road will be rehabilitated. I am glad that the Government is now walking the talk. This is commendable. We thank the Government for a job well done as our vehicles will have a longer life span,” she said. Another motorist, Mr Oscar Kweru, said; “We are grateful for the portion being done but also hoping all the roads will be completed,” he said.
Mr Tinashe Mandeya recently hailed the Government for opening up the new Boulevard Road that stretches from Bindura Road straight to the New Parliament Building.
“This is the way to go, especially since we are talking of having a new city in the area where access roads should be many. This is commendable,” he said.
